Wiedenroth Technologies ConsentGate

Description

Wiedenroth Technologies ConsentGate is a consent-management plugin for WordPress by Wiedenroth Technologies GmbH. Non-essential scripts load only after explicit consent. Google Consent Mode v2 stays active so modelled conversions can continue.

The plugin is a technical helper. It is not legal advice and does not replace a reviewed privacy policy. IAB TCF, a tracker proxy, and network-wide multisite management are not included.

The admin is in English. Banner texts are available in German and English. Further translations are provided through translate.wordpress.org.

  • Cookie banner (bottom, corner, or modal) in German and English, following the site language
  • Categories: Necessary, Statistics, Marketing, optional Preferences
  • Script blocking (type="text/plain" plus host and cookie matching)
  • Google Consent Mode v2 (default denied, update after a choice, optional Advanced Mode)
  • Website scan for known services and active plugins
  • Server-side consent logs, CSV export, and a retention period
  • Privacy-policy check for detected services
  • WP Consent API and WooCommerce (necessary shop cookies are never blocked)
  • Banner logo from the Media Library, privacy page from WordPress pages
  • Cookie icon can be turned off; use a “Cookie settings” menu link instead

The “ConsentGate” label in the public banner is opt-in (off by default). You choose it during setup or later under Banner.

Theme gate for your own scripts:

<script type="text/plain" data-consent-gate="marketing" src="https://example.com/pixel.js"></script>

Reopen the banner: window.ConsentGate.open()

Service names and logos (Google, Meta, TikTok, and others) are used only to identify vendors. They remain trademarks of their owners.

Not in v1: IAB TCF, tracker proxy, multisite network management.

External services

Privacy scan (optional)

On the Services screen, “Scan this site from the outside” opens the Wiedenroth privacy checker in a new tab. The public site URL is added as the url query parameter so the checker knows which site to inspect. Nothing is sent until an administrator clicks the link. The checker reads publicly visible pages only. It is not legal advice.

Google tags

Wiedenroth Technologies ConsentGate recognizes Google tags. It does not contact Google merely by detecting them. A local gtag('consent', 'default', …) stub is printed in the page head and stays in the browser.

If the scan stored Google measurement IDs, the plugin loads https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js after the visitor allows statistics or marketing. With Advanced Consent Mode turned on (off by default), Google tags already on the page are not blocked, so Google can receive cookieless pings before a choice.

  2. Activate the plugin under Plugins.
  3. Complete the first-run setup (scan, optional “Support us”), then style the banner.

FAQ

Does Wiedenroth Technologies ConsentGate block WooCommerce?

No. Cart, checkout, and session cookies stay necessary. Tracker plugins (Meta Pixel, Google Ads, and similar) load only after consent.

Does Wiedenroth Technologies ConsentGate need the “WP Consent API” plugin?

No. Wiedenroth Technologies ConsentGate sets the same categories (functional, statistics, marketing, preferences). If that plugin is active, Wiedenroth Technologies ConsentGate registers as a CMP.

May the banner show “ConsentGate”?

During first-run setup: scan the site, then choose “Show badge” or “Continue without badge”. Later: Banner Support us. For WordPress.org the badge stays off unless you opt in. The name may appear in the admin and in this readme.

How do I restart setup?

Go to Settings “Restart setup”. The wizard opens again. Scan results and banner texts are kept.

Where are the logs stored?

In the {prefix}consentgate_logs table. IP addresses are not stored. The plugin logs a pseudonymous visitor ID from the browser, the decision, an optional country (only if geo headers are trusted), and the banner version.

Is Wiedenroth Technologies ConsentGate legal advice?

No. The plugin implements technical measures. Whether banner copy, the privacy policy, and the services you use are legally sufficient is for the site owner or their counsel to decide.
