This plugin allows your WordPress blog to output pages compressed in gzip \nformat if a browser supports compression.<\/p>\n\n

HTTP compression generally means a 60-80% REDUCTION in the size of your pages \n(broadband usage) as well as an INCREASE in download speeds of 3x to 4x.<\/p>\n\n

To test if your blog is using compression use the following link:<\/p>\n\n

Check \"Page GZip\" on the right hand size.\nCheck \"Bandwidth saved by compression\" on the left hand side.<\/p>\n\n

NOTE: This plugin should not be used alongside WP Super Cache or WP Cache\nsince those plugins are already implementing compression. Your blog\nwill keep working but those plugins will stop caching new pages.<\/p>\n\n

RECENT NEWS - 20 March 2010:<\/p>\n\n

Its been reported by a user that there is a conflict \nusing WP HTTP Compression together with Google Analytics Plugin (3.2.5). I'll\nto look into this and release a patch for next release. \nNote that this conflict is NOT with Google Analytics itself but with\nthe PLUGIN. Google Analytics scripts and stat collection have been tested\nand work fine with the WP HTTP Compression plugin.<\/p>\n\n\n

  1. Download the wp-http-compression.zip<\/code> plugin to your desktop.<\/li>\n
  2. Navigate to the 'Plugins' menu in Wordpress<\/li>\n
  3. Click 'Add New'.<\/li>\n
  4. Select 'Upload' from the options at top of the page.<\/li>\n
  5. Select the file wp-http-compression.zip<\/code> and press 'Install Now'.<\/li>\n
  6. You should get a message saying 'Plugin Installed successfully'.<\/li>\n
  7. Activate the plugin.<\/li>\n
  8. Go to http:\/\/ismyblogworking.com\/ to test compression<\/li>\n
  9. Check \"Page GZip\" on the right hand size.<\/li>\n
  10. Check \"Bandwidth saved by compression\" on the left hand side.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n

    And there you go! Who said that was hard? :)<\/p>\n\n

    TO REMOVE THE PLUGIN<\/p>\n\n

    1. Navigate to the 'Plungins' menu in Wordpress<\/li>\n
    2. Scroll down to 'WP HTTP Compression' plugin.<\/li>\n
    3. Click 'Deactivate'<\/li>\n
    4. Scroll down again and click 'Delete'<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n
