The plugin delivers the metadata a WordPress site needs for search engines and social preview - and nothing else.<\/p>\n\n<h4>What the plugin does<\/h4>\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Meta description<\/strong> - built from the excerpt or the first 158 characters of the content, overridable per post via a meta box.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Open Graph<\/strong> - <code>og:title<\/code>, <code>og:description<\/code>, <code>og:image<\/code>, <code>og:type<\/code>, <code>og:url<\/code> for Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Twitter Card<\/strong> - <code>summary_large_image<\/code> when an image is available, otherwise <code>summary<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>JSON-LD<\/strong> - <code>Organization<\/code>, <code>WebSite<\/code>, <code>WebPage<\/code>, <code>Article<\/code> (with author and date), <code>BreadcrumbList<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Canonical URL<\/strong> - set consistently; the core <code>rel_canonical<\/code> handler is deregistered.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Webmaster tool verifications<\/strong> - meta tags for Bing, Google Search Console, Yandex Webmaster (only emitted when configured).<\/li>\n<li><strong>IndexNow<\/strong> - optional ping to Bing\/Yandex IndexNow on publish\/update, disabled by default (see \"External Services\" below).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h4>What the plugin does not do<\/h4>\n\n<ul>\n<li>No keyword score, no \"SEO traffic light score\", no cornerstone content concept.<\/li>\n<li>No analytics, no tracking, no user profiling.<\/li>\n<li>No XML sitemap generator - WordPress core has done this natively since 5.5.<\/li>\n<li>No redirect manager - that belongs at the web server level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3>External Services<\/h3>\n\n<p>This plugin does <strong>not<\/strong> make any external HTTP calls itself, unless you explicitly enable IndexNow.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>IndexNow (optional, disabled by default):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>What:<\/strong> On every publish or update of a public post type, the URL is sent to the IndexNow protocol (<code>https:\/\/api.indexnow.org\/indexnow<\/code>) so Bing, Yandex and other participating search engines can pick up the change immediately.<\/li>\n<li><strong>When:<\/strong> Only if an IndexNow key is configured under <strong>Settings -&gt; itdatex SEO<\/strong>. Without a key: not a single call.<\/li>\n<li><strong>What is sent:<\/strong> The site's hostname, the IndexNow key, the key location (<code>https:\/\/your-domain\/&lt;key&gt;.txt<\/code>) and the URL of the post just published. No content, no user data.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Provider and terms:<\/strong> IndexNow is an open protocol, operated among others by Microsoft (Bing) and Yandex. Terms of use: https:\/\/www.indexnow.org\/terms. Privacy: https:\/\/www.bing.com\/webmaster\/help\/what-is-indexnow-2b2ce5b1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>If you do not want IndexNow, simply leave the key field empty - then no HTTP request is sent to external servers.<\/p>\n\n<!--section=installation-->\n<ol>\n<li>Extract the plugin to <code>\/wp-content\/plugins\/itdatex-seo\/<\/code>, or upload it via <code>Plugins -&gt; Add New<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>Activate.<\/li>\n<li>Under <strong>Settings -&gt; itdatex SEO<\/strong>, enter the default Open Graph image, Twitter handle and organization data.<\/li>\n<li>Per post or page, the meta description and OG image can be overridden via the SEO meta box in the editor.<\/li>\n<li>Optional: enable IndexNow by entering an IndexNow key under the same menu (see \"External Services\" below).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<!--section=faq-->\n<dl>\n<dt id=\"does%20it%20conflict%20with%20yoast%20seo%20or%20rank%20math%3F\"><h3>Does it conflict with Yoast SEO or Rank Math?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>Yes. If a second SEO plugin also writes canonical tags, Open Graph or JSON-LD, you will get duplicates in the <code>&lt;head&gt;<\/code>. <strong>itdatex SEO<\/strong> is designed as a stand-alone plugin - running it in parallel with a large suite makes no sense.<\/p><\/dd>\n<dt id=\"why%20no%20xml%20sitemap%3F\"><h3>Why no XML sitemap?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>WordPress core has provided native sitemaps at <code>\/wp-sitemap.xml<\/code> since 5.5. A second sitemap generator is just bloat.<\/p><\/dd>\n<dt id=\"how%20does%20the%20og%20image%20work%3F\"><h3>How does the OG image work?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>Order: (1) URL entered manually in the SEO meta box, (2) featured image, (3) default OG image from the plugin settings. Recommended: 1200x630 pixels.<\/p><\/dd>\n<dt id=\"what%20language%20is%20the%20json-ld%20output%20in%3F\"><h3>What language is the JSON-LD output in?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>Fixed to <code>de-DE<\/code>, since the plugin is written for the German market.
